As April Fools-worthy the headline comes across as, there is an actual event happening that will blend the music of acclaimed composer Beethoven and iconic rap artist Kanye West, called Yeethoven.
Put on by the Young Musicians Foundation of Los Angeles, Yeethoven will attempt to show the similarities between the artists. The 70-piece orchestra will be performing six songs by Beethoven, as well as six songs by Kanye, all performed live.
“You wouldn’t intuitively think of Kanye West and Beethoven as being similar musicians,” the trailer narrates. “But if you listen a little closer, you’ll notice a lot of similarities.”
As you watch the trailer for the concert you’ll immediately see what the narrator is talking about, as the group seamlessly goes through parts of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, and parts of standout Yeezus track “Blood on the Leaves.” And after all, classical music and Kanye West have met before by the way of Late Orchestration.
The concert will be held on April 16 at L.A.’s Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, and it’s free. Now all this concert needs is a guest appearance from Kanye himself (maybe conducting for a song?), or even a brief performance from something off of The Life of Pablo (you know, now that it’s finally streaming everywhere).
