When it was announced that Garth Ennis’ Preacher was going to make its way to AMC thanks to Seth Rogen and company, the reaction was mixed. It’s a sprawling epic with a lot of material that’s tough to transfer over to broadcast television. How will they be able to do it?
Judging from the latest teaser for the show, airing this Sunday with the finale of The Walking Dead, the violence from the comic seems to be intact to an extent. Blood is everywhere, weird things seems to be happening, and we’re hopefully on the right road to a Preacher adaptation. Here’s how AMC is describing the series:
“Preacher” is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.
The dark comedy of the comic also seems to be along for the ride given the death of a certain celebrity in the opening episode. Hopefully they found out the location of David Miscavige’s wife beforehand.
Preacher will hit on AMC this May, hopefully with rave reviews and fan support soon after. A disaster would be sad.
