Charlize Theron is more than just a beautiful South African — she’s one of the best actors working in cinema today, and her role in Mad Max: Fury Road should have garnered her an Oscar nomination. Don’t worry, though, because Theron is taking another crack at the driver’s seat, as it’s just been confirmed that the actress will appear in the eighth film in the Fast & Furious series.
Theron is no stranger to the action genre, having appeared in 2003’s The Italian Job (with director F. Gary Gray, who is helming Furious 8), as well as Aeon Flux, and Hancock. Joining Theron in Furious 8 are recurring characters played by Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, and Lucas Black.
Furious 7 was grand achievement for the car-centric series, having grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide, becoming one of the top pictures of 2015 and easily the highest-grossing film in the franchise. It remains unknown as to what kind of role Theron will be playing in the eighth installment, but you can bet your car’s title that she’ll bring the goods when the film debuts next year.
Furious 8 is set to begin production this May, and will bow in April 2017.
