Did you hear? Kobe Bryant is hanging his Nikes up, and Wednesday night’s game against the visiting Utah Jazz will be the last of his career. To commemorate the five-time champion, the fine people behind the NBA 2K franchise are putting him on a special commemorative cover of next year’s game, NBA 2K17 Legend Edition.
Here’s the press release:
This special edition of the top-rated NBA video game simulation series for the last 15 years* will highlight Bryant’s career with special Kobe-themed memorabilia and digital content extending his legacy for fans beyond his final NBA game tonight.
“It’s a great honor to partner with 2K on the NBA 2K17 Legend Edition,” said Kobe Bryant, whose retirement tonight marks a storied 20-year career. “As I walk off the NBA court for the final time, it’s exciting to know my fans can continue to celebrate my lifelong career as a Los Angeles Laker.”
If you pre-order NBA 2K17 Legend Edition, you’ll also receive rare Kobe bric-a-brac including a poster, two Kobe Panini trading cards, a Black Mamba game controller skin, which is probably really scaly and cold-blooded, 30,000 virtual currency (VC), and a MyTEAM Bundle which includes three packs with a guaranteed Kobe limited-use card.
But — and these are the fresh goodies even for non-gamers if you pre-order — you’ll also get Nike Kobe XI kicks, a Kobe No. 8 jersey from Mitchell and Ness, a Kobe hoodie and more.
That’s a lot of Kobe.
The NBA 2K17 Legend Edition will be available in digital and physical formats for $79.99 on PLayStation®4 and Xbox One. Fans can pre-order online or at various retailers.
