The first-round series between the Miami Heat and Charlotte Bobcats has been extremely physical. It’s not quite at the level of those Heat-Knicks matchups that featured Jeff van Gundy swinging from the leg of Alonzo Mourning but it has been a battle.
But Heat center Hassan Whiteside wondered why so many fouls were being called when the Bobcats weren’t earning them.
“I thought this was the playoffs,” Whiteside said. “Isn’t this supposed to be physical basketball? I thought the playoffs were more physical. This is the flop-offs, man. … I don’t even want to get on the calls. I got nothing to say. That’s crazy.”
Personally, The Flop-Offs would be an amazing reality show on the NBA Network. Hosted by Vlade Divac, men and women would attempt to win cash and prizes by trying to put forth the most convincing flop.
Whiteside was unhappy about the calls that went against the Heat in Game 4, which was a 89-85 win by the Bobcats in Charlotte to even the series at 2-2. Charlotte was 25-of-30 from the foul line with Whiteside, Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic all sitting with foul trouble.
“We’ve had some key guys in foul trouble,” Heat guard Joe Johnson said of Wade, Dragic and Whiteside. “For the most part, we were just trying to hold the fort until we can get those guys back out there. But it’s tough. We just kept fouling and kept putting them on the line. We have to make the game easier. The game has been so tough for us, especially in Charlotte. We have to make an adjustment.”
And if that adjustment is the new hit show The Flop-Offs, it could be a ratings bonanza.
