Boardwalk Empire was burning through HBO’s money before it was cool. The pilot episode of Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese’s much-missed Prohibition drama allegedly cost $18 million, or $8 million more than what every episode of Game of Thrones costs this season. I assume most of that scratch went to CGI for Richard Harrow’s half-face and Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons, which should give Jack Huston and Emilia Clarke something to talk about on the set of Phillip Noyce’s Above Suspicion. The thriller, based on the book of the same name by New York Times columnist Joe Sharkey, will star the HBO power couple as an FBI agent and an “impoverished local woman.”
Above Suspicion is the chilling true story of a newly married FBI poster-boy assigned to an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky. There he is drawn into an illicit affair with an impoverished local woman who becomes his star informant. She sees in him her means of escape; instead, it’s a ticket to disaster for both of them. This scandal shook the foundations of the nation’s top law enforcement agency, ending in the first ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder. (Via)

Anyway, Above Suspicion sounds like the name of a salaciously cheesy made-for-TV movie you might have seen on HBO years before Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and even The Sopranos premiered. In fact, it is! 1995’s Above Suspicion stars Christopher Reeve as a paralyzed cop named Dempsey Cain (!) who tries to murder his wife, played by Kim Cattrall, and her boy toy, Edward Kerr. HBO should just remake that. But with dragons.
