Dan Aykroyd and Judy Belushi, the legendary John Belushi’s widow, are getting the band back together. The Blues Brothers is going to be adapted into an animated series. The animation will be done by Bento Box Entertainment, the animation studio behind Bob’s Burgers. Currently, there is no network signed on, but the classic twosome wear sunglasses at night. This is their nature.

According to Aykroyd,  Jake and Elwood will be a modern-day version of their classic selves, “…utilizing all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement — and all while fighting for truth, justice, and a better breakfast sandwich.”

Aykroyd and John Belushi invented the Blues Brothers characters in the mid-’70s and debuted them on Saturday Night Live in 1978. In 1980, they became everlasting icons of cool in the John Landis-directed The Blues Brothers.

While this series isn’t guaranteed yet, the idea of the brothers teaming up once again in animated adventures seems way better than another nostalgia-laden live-action outing. No one deserves another Blues Brothers 2000, especially not 18 years later. With animation, Jake and Elwood can have all sorts of car chases and hijinks, the way it should be.

All we can say is, hit it!
