Much like Madonna, Lady Gaga has done her fair share to anger Christian and Catholic leaders with her shocking lyrics, use of religious symbols and equally “blasphemous” music videos. The provocative pop powerhouse has dressed up as a nun, swallowed rosary beads, resurrected Jesus Christ, and has even dressed up as Mary Magdalene while singing about “clinging to Judas,” all in the name of art.
Yet, despite her controversial imagery, Gaga maintains she’s a Christian, not the Satan-loving she-demon conservatives think she is. As of late, the Born This Way singer — who was raised Catholic — has been getting more in touch with her religious roots and sharing scripture on her social media accounts. Just this past Monday, Gaga thanked Father Duffell of the Blessed Sacrament Church for a “beautiful homily” that resonated so deeply with her that she shared it on her Instagram.
Unfortunately, the post led to the Christian website Catholic-Link telling music fans not to be fooled by the pop star’s share because she’s still the spiritually bankrupt sexual deviant she’s always been.
So, what is a Catholic to do with all these situations? Many celebrities are sharing Bible verses, quoting priests, and singing Christian music while at the same time still leading a typical Hollywood lifestyle void of Christian values such as modesty and purity.
Gaga delivered a Christ-like response to the website, referencing the story of Jesus being totally non-judgemental of prostitute Mary Magdalene and debunking the myth that celebrities are void of morals.
Dear, Becky Roach
Mary Magdalene washed the feet of Christ and was protected and loved by him. A prostitute. Someone society shames as if she and her body are a man’s trash can. He loved her and did not judge. He let her cry over him and dry his feet with the hair of a harlot. We are not just “celebrities” we are humans and sinners, children, and our lives are not void of values because we struggle. We are as equally forgiven as our neighbor. God is never a trend no matter who the believer.
Ouch! Burned by the Bible. Hard to argue with a play out of your own book.
