The Nancy Drew series of books began way back in 1930 and still have a legacy to this day, helping to inspire new generations of female detectives in many forms of entertainment, from literature to TV and movies. The Nancy Drew name means something, though, which is what CBS had initially hoped for with the series Drew. Drew is set to star Sarah Shahi from Person of Interest as an older, more mature Nancy Drew solving crimes in New York, probably a bit closer to the Nancy Drew Files than the original girl sleuth books.
It turns out CBS had two female lead shows on their dockets, including Drew and a Katherine Heigl vehicle called Doubt. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has decided to stick with Doubt and to scrap Drew. But never fear, detectives, the producers of the show feel strongly enough about it to try to keep it alive and shop it around to other networks.
As we’ve seen with the rise of internet-based subscription services such as Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime, there are more and more homes for shows that the stodgy broadcast companies decide to pass on than ever before. So with other broadcast networks, a parade of cable networks and even online streaming services as viable options the chances of Drew making it past this stage look pretty good, still.
