Taco Bell must love giving America free food as much as we love taking it from them. The company has involved itself in the sports betting game before, so this year’s “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” promotion is nothing new — though the format and the reward is a bit different.
So what’s the bet? According to the press release, “The promotion gives America a free Doritos Locos Taco if a team wins (“steals”) a road game in the NBA Finals, which begin Thursday, June 2 on ABC.” It’s “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” with basketball and Doritos Locos. We dig, because free tacos.
“At Taco Bell, we love to champion the underdog and rally behind sports’ most exciting moments,” Marisa Thalberg, Taco Bell’s Chief Marketing Officer said. “Stealing an NBA road game gives the away team an edge, and now it can win America a taco.”
The NBA is just as excited to be working with Taco Bell on the promotion. “Taco Bell is famous for its innovation, irreverence and creativity when it comes to promotions and we are thrilled to partner with them on an NBA-themed campaign during the Finals,” NBA Senior Vice President, Global Partnerships Kerry Matlock said. “Stealing a game on the road in The Finals is a tremendous accomplishment, and with ‘Steal a Game, Steal a Taco,’ fans across the country can share the win.”
Here’s the fine print on the promotion, if you’re wondering when and where to show up for those free tacos. (Er, taco, since it’s Limit One, after all.)
If the road team wins Game 1, Game 2, or Game 3, America will get a free Doritos® Locos Taco on Wednesday, June 15 from 2 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (local time) at all participating Taco Bell locations. If the road team wins Game 4, Game 5, Game 6, or Game 7, America will score a free Doritos® Locos Taco on Tuesday, June 21 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) at all participating US Taco Bell locations.
Question, though: If America gets a free taco, does that mean only people with the name America get that taco? Do they then have to split that one taco between themselves? Speak, Taco Bell!
Just kidding, of course. Keep in mind, though, according to the Program Rules, “Participating Taco Bell restaurant managers reserve the right to deny Free Doritos Locos Taco to any person they reasonably believe has already received a Free Doritos Locos Taco or has engaged in any other fraudulent activity.” So if you’re going to go store-hopping, make sure you wipe the Doritos dust from your mouth between visits.
