Wayne Brady has been a convivial television presence for years now. For example, Dave Chappelle’s iconic sketch skewering Brady’s personality aired in 2004. That means that 12 years ago, we already had a clear sense of who Wayne Brady is, and that hasn’t changed as he hosts Let’s Make a Deal every weekday. However, Brady is also known for his tremendous musical improvisational skills, which helped him make his name on Whose Line is it Anyway?. However, Brady has been in the game for a while now, and he’s not necessarily improvising music as much as he used to. Does he still have the skills? As his appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden clearly shows, the answer is “yes.”
Corden laid down a challenge to Brady for him to freestyle rap and to include words that were suggested to him by Corden, Reggie Watts, and guest Geena Davis. Brady was given the title of “Trapeze Party,” and proceeded to rap a song guided by that title, and including words such as “obsequious,” “fluoride,” and “top hat.”
Unsurprisingly, Brady pulled it off without a single slip up. His freestyle skills remain strong, as is his ability to seamlessly work the word “fluoride” into a rap about trapeze swinging. Sure, Brady knew that he was going to have to rap, but that doesn’t mean it would have turned out this impressive.
