Earlier this week, Aquaman director James Wan revealed to our own Mike Ryan that he was originally offered the choice to direct either The Flash or Aquaman, and he chose Aquaman for the world-building opportunity and other reasons. Now Wan has also spoken to Cinema Blend — during a press tour for The Conjuring 2 — about the situation behind the scenes at the DC Extended Universe.

Rumor has it Warner is going through shake-ups following Batman V Superman‘s lower-than-expected box office returns, but there was also a rumor James Wan had walked away from directing Aquaman and we know how that turned out. Now Wan is also casually dismissing the “shake-up” rumors, or at least saying it doesn’t look like a big deal from where he’s standing.

He told Cinema Blend, “It’s not as dramatic as the press is making it out to be — from what I’m seeing. And right now I’m seeing everything as more an outsider looking into this box.”

He went on to rave about Geoff Johns and The New 52 before returning to the rumors:

“Whatever these ‘shake-ups’ are, I don’t actually see them. If anything, like anything to do with my fricking career, I read about them in the trades, I read them all over the internet! And people are asking me this and I’m like, ‘Huh? What?’ [laughs] Just like I found out all these things.”

Aquaman doesn’t come out til 2018, so it makes sense Wan isn’t seeing any dramatic changes to a movie that hasn’t even started production. Though, to be fair, this is the guy who directed the glorious, proudly idiotic Furious 7, so any drama that doesn’t involve driving a car out of a plane and landing on another plane then landing on an aircraft carrier and then sinking it with the power of The Rock’s rippling biceps probably seems anti-climactic to him.

Furious 7 was a good movie.
