Actor Anton Yelchin, best known for such films as Star Trek and Alpha Dog, has died at age 27. The Associated Press reports that Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision. The news of Yelchin’s death has been confirmed by his publicist Jennifer Allen.
Details on the events that caused Yelchin’s passing are still surfacing. A report from TMZ states that the actor’s death was the result of a “freak accident.” According to the outlet, Yelchin was pinned by his own car.
Yelchin’s friends became alarmed because he was supposed to meet them hours earlier for a rehearsal. They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 AM and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate.
TMZ reports that police do not suspect foul play in the death. They also state that they’ve gotten word from law enforcement officials that the engine of the vehicle was still running when Yelchin was discovered.
Anton Yelchin’s career featured a variety of acclaimed performances, including the lead role in the recent critical darling Green Room. He lent his talents to blockbusters (like the Smurfs series), as well as less commercial fare such as Like Crazy. Yelchin’s family is currently requesting privacy at this time.
