The whole concept of method acting makes a lot of sense, and there have been a lot of famous people who have successfully used it to make their performances unforgettable. The last guy who played famed Batman villain The Joker was the now-deceased Heath Ledger, and his methods for getting into character and just how well he nailed the unpredictable nature of the character will live on as a template for ages to come. That also set the bar pretty high for Jared Leto in the upcoming Suicide Squad film. The thing is, the more that we hear about Leto’s “craziness,” the more he just sounded utterly obnoxious.
The latest report on zany Jared Leto comes from E!Online, who spoke with co-star Viola Davis. Davis stars as Amanda Weller in the film, and much like the rest of the cast, was a recipient of one of Leto’s “crazy” gifts. What was her gift? A box of bullets, apparently, which didn’t sit well with her.
“It was a little worrisome,” Davis said. “It made you a little bit nervous and I’m pretty tough. You know I got into a few fights when I was growing up…but it scared me a little bit.”
On top of that, she hadn’t met Leto prior to him turning into The Joker, meaning that she just kinda knew Jared Leto as a guy wanting to be a sociopath and creating an “unpredictable” atmosphere. When she actually met him at a wrap party, well, she had some mixed feelings.
“Before that I was only introduced to The Joker…and I almost had my pepper spray out. You know, ‘You remember that bullet you sent me?'” Davis said.
It turns out Viola Davis didn’t pepper spray Jared Leto, which in a way is a bummer. Wouldn’t that be the ultimate compliment to method acting? Having someone get pissed off with you and attack you? I’m not really sure, but Suicide Squad is really gonna be something that we’re all gonna have to watch to see exactly what all of this Leto hype is about.
