Mistah F.A.B., in light of the recent state sanctioned murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, released “6 Shots” as way to speak out against police brutality. F.A.B. believes that what’s happening is part of an agenda to start a civil war between the police and the black population of America. Throughout the song, he reminisces about the deaths of Eric Garner and Oscar Grant, while shouting out Jesse Williams’ speech on BET. He starts the first verse off by telling the listener how he learned about the death of Alton Sterling and watching Sterling’s wife and kids at their press conference.
Woke up this morning and on tv seen a man murdered
Selling cds in front the store to get his furthered
Six shots to the chest in front of everybody
Dead on arrival, last breath, seen it out his body
His kid’s mama made a speech, shit made me weak
His son broke down crying live on TV
Later on that day, seen a man get shot for a traffic stop
White America, when will this madness stop?
In the second verse, F.A.B. talks about the deaths of Eric Garner and Oscar Grant while admonishing the police for how they treat black and brown people. He also takes a shot at white America, saying “so all you white folks that still say we all equal/I bet you wouldn’t trade pigmentation with my people/everybody wanna be a n*gga until you gotta be a n*gga/until your son is the one dead from a trigga.” The Oakland native ends the song with the anti-police brutality speech made by Officer Nakia Jones.
F.A.B. also wrote a statement in support of the song.
“The police put the most radical and reckless officers in the most dangerous neighborhoods. If you’re afraid, if you’re intimidated of black people, why are you patrolling those neighborhoods to begin with? Police forces need to invest more in prevention. And they need to be held accountable for their actions as well. We have to stop the ‘bro-code’ of police and courts standing in solidarity with each other just because they wear the same badge. What makes you any different than someone who murdered unjustly if you stand in solidarity with that person?”
Mistah F.A.B.’s latest project, Son of a Pimp 2, is available now. The project was inspired by the death of his mother and the birth of his daughter.
