Everyone’s favorite hip and trendy corporate coffee shop is under fire this week and this time it has nothing to do with their blazing hot coffee, but rather a fancy straw that apparently has a knack for cutting kids’ mouths.
According to Delish, the coffee bean behemoth has a massive recall of 2.5 million Cold-to-Go stainless steel straws in the U.S. and more than 301,000 in Canada. In a press release earlier this week, Starbucks said that they issued the recall after three children in the U.S. and one child in Canada received mouth lacerations after using the metal straws. There has been no report on the severity of the lacerations, but Starbucks is advising parents to not let their children use or handle the straws and dispose of them immediately.
The straws which were available to purchase from June 2012 to June 2016 were sold in three-packs or were supplied with reusable grande and venti sized cups. Starbucks is offering replacement straws, but unfortunately they’re not stainless steel but rather regular old plastic straws. Have you ever drank an iced cold beverage out of a stainless steel straw? It’s an amazing experience and it would be sad to go back to plastic, but who is willing to risk getting their mouth cut up?
