Ray Allen last played in the NBA in 2014 with the Miami Heat. He’s 41, and he’s a former 10-time All-Star with two NBA titles to his name. However, despite the fact that he hasn’t played the last two seasons, and despite the fine career that he’s had, Allen is thinking about making an NBA comeback. There have been previous reports of his representation reaching out to the Warriors, and Allen has also reportedly talked to the Celtics and Bucks about a possible return.
Now, NBA superfan and a longtime friend of the legendary three-point shooter Spike Lee is trying to convince Allen to sign with the New York Knicks. According to Allen, he and Lee have been texting about the future Hall of Famer potentially coming to New York, with Allen going so far as to say that the award-winning director has been “trying to recruit” him. Of course, Allen and Lee go way back, as Allen starred in one of Lee’s best movies, He Got Game.
That being said, Allen may say it’s not championship-or-bust if he returns – “I’ve been watching, seeing what teams have been doing and I’ve been waiting to see if the opportunity presented itself where I think I could fit,” he said – but it would still be a surprise to see him sign with a team that may not even make the playoffs like New York. Allen will keep working on his possible return, Lee will keep trying to bring Allen to the Knicks, and while it seems unlikely, maybe Lee’s work on the recruiting trail will pay off.
