This Petition Calls For Changing An Oklahoma Town’s Name Because Kevin Durant Left The Thunder

One Oklahoma City Thunder fan apparently feels so betrayed by the departure of Kevin Durant that he’s started a petition to change the name of Durant, Oklahoma to Westbrook.

Nevermind that Durant, population just under 17,000, isn’t named after the former Thunder star, Ryan Nazari wants it changed regardless. It’s about loyalty! From Ryan’s change.org petition:

“As many of you know, Kevin Durant has left our state, torn out our hearts, and left our beloved Oklahoma City Thunder in depleted shape. All of this after even being offered a cabinet position for the State of Oklahoma. It is because of this heinous action that I believe the State of Oklahoma has a responsibility to change the name of the City of Durant to Westbrook, the man who is loyal, whom we believe in, and who will lead our team to glory. Yes, it is understood that the city Durant was not named after the evil Kevin Durant, but it is just another hideous reminder of what happened to our community.”

What’s left unsaid, sadly, is that Westbrook probably won’t stick around either. Face it, Oklahoma, you’re just not as big a draw as, well, most cities that have NBA teams. If you want to stay relevant, you’re going to have to nail the draft year after year.

Or just let the Thunder go back to Seattle and steal another city’s team that’s already stocked with the superstars leaving Oklahoma!
