Rick Ross’ Port of Miami turned 10 on August 8, and he’s teamed up with Tidal for a special concert set to air Monday, August 29th to celebrate the release of the project that kickstarted his career. To build up the anticipation for the show, Tidal had the biggest boss sit down for the camera and share his thoughts on what informed two songs from his debut album.
The selected tracks that he discusses are “I’m Bad” and “Street Life.” Both clips are clear and direct, because The Bawse typically likes to let the music to do the talking for him. When reflecting on “I’m Bad,” he states that it’s one of his favorite from the 2006 project. “When this record comes on,” Ross says, “it lets you know we ain’t taking no for an answer.” For his “Street Life” collab with singer Lloyd, Rozay says he drew off the reality of what was transpiring around him in Dade County. “Just running the streets, that’s all that was,” he says. “Trying to have 10 cars.”
