Could Jimmy Garoppolo’s magical start to the 2016 season come to an abrupt end? The Patriots’ replacement for Tom Brady was ushered into the locker room after this hit from Kiko Alonso appeared to hurt his shoulder. This injury meant that 2016 third-round pick Jacoby Brissett, who played his college ball at NC State, was forced into action.
Garoppolo had spent his afternoon up to this point carving up Miami’s secondary. New England had a 21-0 lead prior to Garoppolo’s exit, and Jimmy G was showing everyone why he is believed to be the potential heir apparent to Brady. His stat line on the afternoon, should his day come to an end, was 18-for-27 with 234 yards and three touchdowns.
As of now, the Patriots say that Garoppolo’s return to the game is questionable.

We’ll let you know if anything changes with Garoppolo’s status. Should he be out for an extended period of time, the Patriots would only have to wait two weeks for Brady to return. Until then, Brissett will probably get the opportunity to show what he can do. If it’s anything like what Garoppolo has been able to do through six-ish quarters, then New England will have quite the QB conundrum on its hands.
UPDATE: The Patriots have officially ruled Garoppolo out for the remainder of Sunday’s game against Miami.

According to the team’s official roster, the team’s only quarterbacks are Brady, Garoppolo, and Brissett, so if Brissett gets hurt, there’s no word who Bill Belichick would turn to under center.
