In case there was any doubt literally everyone wants to work with Ava DuVernay, here’s another star vying for a role. Zach Galifianakis is the newest actor negotiating to join DuVernay’s live-action adaptation of young adult classic A Wrinkle In Time, a book fiercely beloved by every one of my classmates who wore sweatpants to school and drew centaurs on their trapper keeper.
Galifianakis is in talks to play a character named Happy Medium, and we can tell just by the name that’s perfect casting. The character is able to see different locations and time periods, something we imagine Galifianakis can also do.
If he joins the $100 million plus production, Galifianakis will be working with an already huge cast of recognizable actors including Storm Reid as the little girl looking for her missing father, a scientist played by Chris Pine. Supernatural beings helping her find her dad include Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit), Mindy Kaling (Mrs. Who), and Oprah Winfrey (Mrs. Which). The cast also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Chris Pine’s wife, Levi Miller as Calvin, Deric McCabe as Charles Wallace, and Andre Holland as Principal Jenkins.
We also have an EXCLUSIVE preview of Zach Galifianakis using Happy Medium’s amazing astral projection abilities:
Okay, not really. Perhaps the special effects for Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time will be slightly better.
