Remember back when NBC starting talking about making comedies that were more “broad” and less “smart/sophiscated,” and everyone was running around screaming “YEAH, BUT WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? ‘BROAD’ HOW? ARE YOU CANCELING COMMUNITY? ANSWER ME!” Well, don’t look now, but I think we just got our answer:
Jessica Simpson is getting her own sitcom. NBC, Universal Television, and production company Electus are creating a pilot presentation of a comedy based on Simpson’s life, written by Paul Blart: Mall Cop scribe Nick Bakay. [Vulture]
A sitcom. Starring Jessica Simpson. About her life. Written by the mind that brought you Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeesus. And as if all that weren’t enough, the production company behind it, Electus, is run by disgraced former NBC Top Banana Ben Silverman, who said Jessica Simpson is (AND I QUOTE) “truly a modern-day Lucy.” As in Lucille “I Love Lucy” Ball. Yeah.
As someone who has seen the movie Private Valentine: Armed & Dangerous (aka Major Movie Star), I can safely say that this is one of the silliest things anyone has ever said.
