A few months ago, we mentioned that HBO had picked up the pilot for Ryan Murphy’s (Glee, American Horror Story) provocative new drama, Open. HBO described it as “a modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships,” and given what we know about Ryan Murphy and the title of the show, that almost certainly means it’s going to be about couples swapping partners, masturbating in boots, and probably the occasional Roman orgy. Probably all the couples have kids, and the parents probably f**k the birthday-party clowns.
It’s going to be AWESOME. Or, it will be for about 9 episodes, then we’ll all grow numb to Ryan Murphy’s “provocative” nature, like we always do. Or he’ll ruin it by bringing in a serial killer for no real reason. But I cannot WAIT for those first nine episodes, especially now that we know who is in the cast.
Michelle Monaghan (above) will play the central female character, Grace. She’s a gynecologist, and knowing Ryan Murphy, he will use that as an excuse to work some really nasty sexual transmitted diseases into the plotlines.
Scott Speedman will play Grace’s fiance. They are recently engaged. He’s in sports marketing, which means musical ad campaigns for athletes, probably.
Anna Torv will play a yoga instructor. She’s in a committed relationship with …
Jennifer Jason Leigh, who is an actress who formed an instant connection with Torv’s character.
Wes Bentley will play Evan Foster, “a bit of a blowhard who loves espousing his theories on human sexuality.” I’m sure he will end up sleeping with one or ALL of the above cast members by the sixth episode. “Sometimes there’s so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can’t take it, and my heart is just going to cave in if I don’t bang everything sight.”
