Back in late September, Solange Knowles released her new album A Seat At The Table, which was featured on our best albums to stream on Spotify, and beat out Bon Iver for Number One on the Billboard charts. This weekend Solange brought her new material to NBC’s Studio 8H for her debut appearance on Saturday Night Live with host Benedict Cumberbatch.

Solange’s mother Tina Knowles-Lawson and sister Beyoncé were both present during the performance, as showcased in an Instagram video posted by her mother during wich Beyoncé and Knowles-Lawson picking up Solange on the stage before the show’s taping, much to Solange’s dismay. “She’s still our baby,” the video’s caption reads. “We have been picking her up like this since she was 10 yrs old.” Check out that clip above.

For her first song, she employed backup dancers and donned a beaded dress and head piece that reflected the studio lights in a way that appeared that she was lighting up, performing “Cranes In The Sky,” which you can check out below.

She returned later in the show for a performance of “Don’t Touch My Hair,” which featured an outfit emphasizing her natural hair and saw her band also serving as backup dancers, complementing her soulful delivery. Check out video of the performance below.
