We’ve seen this kind of thing before. James Harden – whose defensive ineptitude has been well-documented over the years – once let an opponent have a wide-open layup while arguing with the refs. Gerald Green was guilty of a similar crime on Friday night against the Warriors.
While doing a pretty decent job of trying to wrestle the ball away from Kevin Durant at the top of the key, he managed to hassle Durant into what appeared to be a few extra steps before he managed to dribble the ball. But instead of playing through the no-call and sticking with his defensive assignment, Green committed the cardinal sin of pausing to complain to the officials.
Seizing the opportunity, Durant, of course, went ahead and calmly knocked down the mid-range jump shot. Let that be a lesson to all you kids out there.
