There’s little doubt that you’ll find annoyances within every belief and non-belief out there this holiday. The Mensch on a Bench and Elf on the Shelf represent the creepy side of Christian and Jewish faiths for the holidays, but what about those darn Atheists? Typically it shouldn’t matter, but plenty of Atheists seem to want that inclusion with all the hefty religion and that’s where the Skeptic on a Stick comes in courtesy of Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Want to have the traditions of Christmas ruined for you at every turn? The Skeptic has you covered. Want to know why Chanukah is actually a lesser holiday given a boost to compete with Christmas? The Skeptic is there. Need to kill your child’s hope in the fantasy and magic of Santa Claus? Coca-Cola probably already did that a few times, but the Skeptic will tell them too.
It’s nice to have to hear about Trump from Seth Meyers for once, even if he is pretty sharp with every new bit of news. This could’ve easily been Trump with a Rump or something silly, but instead it’s something fairly original for the show. I would take the Skeptic on a Stick over the Elf on the Shelf any day. It is far less creepy than the Elf and you know it’s not secretly plotting your demise on a nightly basis during the holidays. The Skeptic would just plot out a way to get his shows on the DVR and sneak almond milk on the grocery list.
