It’s practically a given at this point that Kendrick Lamar will end the week with the number one album in the country with DAMN. What’s more surprising is that because of some adjusted sales projections, it looks like he’s going to outperform Drake’s titanic sales figures while he’s at it.
According to Billboard who have been tracking the sales of Lamar’s most recent album, DAMN. is currently predicted to end its first week out with somewhere between 530,000 to 550,000 equivalent album units sold. If the model holds true, not only would that be the best sales performance of Kendrick’s entire career, it would also give DAMN, the best single-week sales title of 2017, a distinction currently held by Drake’s More Life.
More Life debuted in its first week with 505,000 in total sales, then held down the top-spot own the charts for the next three consecutive weeks. A majority of that figure was made up by streaming sales of that albums’ 22 different tracks. The holder of the title for most pure album sales so far in 2017 is Ed Sheehan with his album ÷, but that distinction looks like it’s about to go down as well. Kendrick looks to have sold somewhere in the neighborhood 330,000 actual copies of DAMN, which would be a full 8,000 more than Sheeran managed to do.
