It appears that Kevin Gates is going to be out of the public eye for a while. According to TMZ, the Islah rapper has been sentenced by a judge in Illinois to 30 months in prison. Gates appeared in court on Wednesday and plead guilty to weapons related charges. He’s currently being housed in Cook County Jail, but will soon be transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Gates was originally supposed to secure his freedom last month, on March 24, but, as he was being processed out of jail in Polk County Jail in Florida, a warrant for his arrest popped up in Illinois. Gates was found guilty of misdemeanor battery back in October, stemming from a concert where he kicked a female fan in the face. The trial took just a single day, with the judge throwing the book at Gates and sentencing him to six months of time for the offense.
Just after that legal setback, Gates wife Dreka posted a message to Instagram to thank the Baton Rouge rapper’s fans for their support during this time. “Thoughts become things,” she wrote. “Let’s all be positive. Send positive energy, positive thoughts.”
