If it still seems like a dream that LCD Soundsystem is actually coming back, it’s time to wake up and realize that “this is happening,” for real. The James Murphy-led group canceled a string of shows in Asia at the end of last year because they were working on a new album, and they played new material live in Brooklyn last month. This has all lead to tonight, which marks the release of two new LCD Soundsystem songs, “Call The Police” and “American Dream.” You can actually hear the former as part of a BBC Radio 6 program below.

In a lengthy Facebook post on the LCD Soundsystem page this morning, Murphy wrote, “in other news, we’re releasing 2 songs tonight at midnight (and i mean, literally, midnight. wherever you are. so, like, Australia first, and so on and so forth) via the digital things that people use now on their devices.”
He also shed light on when the band’s fourth album will be out, saying, “seriously almost done with the LP. 1 more vocal and 2 more mixes to go. as eager as folks have been for me to get this done, it’s got nothing on how much i want to be finished myself.” He went on to clarify that he wants a vinyl version of the record to be available on the album’s release day, so as he put it, “however long that takes = when the record will be out.”
Lastly, Murphy addressed the band’s touring plans, saying that he’s trying to balance his preference for medium-sized venues with keeping tickets at a reasonable price:
“We loved playing the Brooklyn Steel shows, and we’re just in a funny place, in terms of understanding what size venues/how many nights we should play in various places. we generally prefer medium sized venues over huge ones, but we also loathe overpriced stubhub bullshit, so we’re navigating this as best we can.”
The band is set to perform on Saturday Night Live when Chris Pine hosts on May 6, and they confirmed on Facebook that they will be playing new material. It seems fair to assume they’ll perform “Call The Police” and “American Dream,” but then again, they wouldn’t be the first musical guest in the past month to premiere a new song on SNL.
Update: Check out the two new songs “american dream” and “call the police” below.
