Stephen Colbert and Donald Trump aren’t on the best terms right now. After The Late Show host joked that the only thing his mouth is good for is “being Vladimir Putin’s c*ck holster,” Trump called a Colbert a “filthy… no-talent guy.” It’s not often the freakin’ president personally attacks you (or at least it wasn’t, until this administration), and Colbert was positively gleeful over Trump’s comments. “The president of the United States has personally come after me and my show,” he said, “and there’s only one thing to say: Yay!”
During Monday’s The Late Show, Colbert was a bit more direct.
While discussing the rise of bumbling Press Secretary Sean Spicer (whose recent time in the bushes “will come in handy next week when he’s working at Home Depot”), and the Washington Post‘s shocking report that Trump shared highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador, Colbert slipped in a message for the president. “I have something to say here,” he began. “Donald Trump, if you’re watching, first of all, you’re a bad president, please resign.” After a lengthy ovation, Colbert continued, “Second of all, please, please, please don’t take Sean Spicer from us.”
It took everything in Colbert’s power to not break into a The Smiths song.
