Jrue Holiday doesn’t appear to be leaving New Orleans anytime soon, and who can really blame him? The city is great, and the Pelicans want to lock him up long term.
Reports on Friday made it clear few people around the league think they have a chance to lure Holiday away from New Orleans. Despite reports that Dallas would go after both Holiday brothers, the pending free agent is likely to sign with his current team shortly after Friday’s midnight opening of the free agent window.

You could argue that the Pelicans had a disappointing finish to the 2016 season after they acquired Boogie Cousins at the All-Star break. But with Cousins in a contract year and star Anthony Davis entering his sixth season in the Association, there’s a lot of optimism that the Pelicans can make a playoff run.
Holiday came to the Pelicans in 2013 in a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers, swapping places with Nerlens Noel. He averaged 15.4 points per game last season. Holiday is said to love New Orleans and the Pelicans, a team that supported him when he missed time last season caring for his wife, Lauren, who had surgery to remove a benign brain tumor.
A 5-year deal would make it clear he wants to stay in New Orleans no matter what happens to Cousins next season.
