Cristiano Ronaldo makes soccer look easy, but sports are anything but. They require practice and a dedication few on this planet have. But Ronaldo wants you to get better, and because he and Nike love you they’ve figured out a way to help athletes of all shapes and sizes work on their game.
The 4-time winner of the Ballon d’Or—awarded by FIFA to the best soccer player in the world—knows a thing or two about motivation and training. He teamed up with Nike to create an app that helps those less gifted put in their best work in order to improve their game.
If that sounds intriguing, the Nike+ Training app has you covered. The app’s website also includes a charming story about how Ronaldo gets ready for a game the night before.
The night before a game, Cristiano Ronaldo drinks either tea with honey or milk and takes a very hot bath for about 20 minutes. The routine is as relaxing as it is athletically strategic, because Ronaldo firmly believes that “smart details” like these make the biggest difference in his ability to perform better than, well, arguably anyone at his sport.
Though his workouts are relentless (he’s no stranger to two-a-days), Ronaldo knows that if he wants to be the best he has to master every aspect of his health that affects his performance. “Eat well, stay hydrated and sleep properly,” says Ronaldo. “This has been my focus since I started my career.”
The app features two new workouts that launched today, with programs designed by Ronaldo’s trainer Joaquin Juan that are designed to be done anywhere. From simple nutrition tips to recovery pointers during rest periods, the app has videos and other important pointers about nutrition, hydration and motivation. Users can also unlock workout challenges and earn badges to show they have what it takes to follow Ronaldo to pickup soccer glory.
