Dwyane Wade Doesn’t Want You Confusing Friendly Dinners With LeBron As Hints Of A Cavs Future

The future is unwritten for Dwyane Wade, other than some loose dinner plans. The Chicago Bulls guard doesn’t know where he’ll be playing next season. He may not even know by December. He’ll almost certainly start the season in Chicago, of course, but with a buyout looming there’s no telling what happens to him if the Bulls push the eject button on his tenure in Chicago.

The heavy rumors of late say he’ll rejoin former Miami Heat teammate LeBron James, this time in Cleveland. That reunion won’t come until Wade gets a buyout, though, and that might not happen for some time. That doesn’t mean he won’t get asked about it at every turn.

TMZ caught up with Wade at the airport after a vacation, and he was asked about whether he’ll “join” LeBron in Cleveland. Wade obviously deflected the question, but he did mention that he’s got plans to meet up with James at some point in the future.

“I’m joining him for dinner this week somewhere,” Wade said as he was getting into a black car. Wade didn’t seem to be answering the question as much as acknowleging that, yes, he and LeBron are friends. The first time the reporter asked the question, he said he sends him “texts” on his phone sometimes.

Still the “joining him for dinner” line, as benign as it was, needed further clarification. Are they getting together to talk about plans next season? Or just having dinner like friends often do? Wade took to Twitter on Tuesday to clarify, retweeting a link to the video and pointing out that they’re not “meeting,” just going to dinner “like friends.”

Wade, in particular, has to be mum on the issue, given that he’s still under contract with Chicago. Even if the Bulls are leaning hard into a rebuild, especially after the trade of Jimmy Butler before the NBA Draft in June, he can’t exactly tip his hand here just yet.
