Kevin Durant Was Getting A Haircut When He Saw Gordon Hayward Break His Ankle

Kevin Durant may have goofed on Twitter this summer, but he’s taking his YouTube page very seriously this season. That includes giving us a behind the scenes look at his day-to-day life in some videos he’s making throughout the season.

His first video of the 2017 season is supposed to give us a look at his opening night celebration with the Warriors, but the most striking moment comes before the game. He’s sitting in a home watching Celtics/Cavaliers a few hours before Golden State’s ring ceremony and game against the Houston Rockets.

Durant is sitting for a haircut while a chef appears to be preparing a meal for him and his friends. And then Kevin Harlan’s voice starts saying “Gordon Hayward has broken his leg” over and over again, and Durant is stunned.

It was a terrible opening night moment, and one that was felt throughout the NBA. Driving to the arena, Durant gave his thoughts on Hayward’s injury and his recovery.

“You know that Gordon’s going to bounce back and still be Gordon Hayward when he gets back from injury but it just sucks to see,” Durant said on the drive to Oracle Arena shortly after. “But we’re all praying for him. We all got his back. This is a fraternity and when stuff like that happens we gotta try to rally around each other.”

The rest of the video is much happier and includes Durant’s mother, Wanda, trying on his championship ring. These moments are cool, and not every NBA player is as open about their home life like Durant is. It’s good to see he’s still willing to open up on camera, though he might not be as active in the comments section as he once was. For obvious reasons.
