Watch Kobe Bryant’s Numbers Get Unveiled In The Staples Center Rafters

Kobe Bryant was always going to be honored by the Los Angeles Lakers as one of the greatest players in franchise history. Then, word broke earlier in 2017 that the organization would be retiring both of his jersey numbers (No. 8 and No. 24) and, to be honest, that felt perfect given the magnitude of what Bryant brought to Los Angeles for so money years.

Finally, the day arrived as the Golden State Warriors invaded the Staples Center for a much-ballyhooed match-up and the Lakers did not disappoint in pulling out all the stops to pave the way for Bryant’s recognition. Things began well before tip-off to the tune of various promotions and a wildly entertaining press conference, but the main event was still the halftime reveal and, in short, the moment in which Bryant’s numbers were unveiled for all to see.

Prior to the unveiling itself, the festivities began with an animated feature (complete with Disney-level music) that was actually created in conjunction with Bryant himself.

Bryant then took the long walk to center court.

On cue, Magic Johnson began the tributes by taking the microphone and declaring that Bryant is “the greatest to ever wear the purple and gold.”

Even the great Allen Iverson made an appearance courtside and the legendary guard was taking it all in.

Following some words from Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss, we got the highly-anticipated revealing of the two newest retired numbers.

Bryant took the microphone for a long-awaited moment as he addressed adoring fans in Los Angeles.

It was clear from the pageantry just how much this moment meant to Bryant, the Lakers organization and the entire devoted fan base. Regardless of one’s feelings on how Bryant stacks up alongside the all-time greats, his impact is undeniable on a number of levels and this night was befitting of his contributions.
