In their previous video, for “Seven Sticks Of Dynamite,” Awolnation kept the vibes rustic with their version of the old west. Now, in their new clip for “Handyman,” they’re sticking to similar Americana themes, although this time around, it’s a long-term love story told from various points throughout the years. Frontman Aaron Bruno sings on the song’s anthemic hook, “If only yesterday took place tomorrow / I’d pray for sleep / And wake you and lift your head / So I can fix your hand / I’ll be your handyman.”
“I wanted to finally tell a good ole fashion love story,” Bruno says of the song and video. “We all have the opportunity to be the handyman (or woman) of the heart.”
Both also line up with the vision of the Here Come The Runts, the band’s upcoming album, that Bruno previously laid out, one that feels vintage and organic:
“With this record I really wanted to make a rock n’ roll/pop album. And I say ‘pop’ how I grew up listening to it, in the sense of Dire Straits or Born In The USA or The Cars or Tom Petty. The record definitely has a feel to it that seems parallel to the vibe of this mountain and the land. It’s like a non-GMO record. There’s no fake shit on there, none of the vocals are tuned. It’s all real playing.”
Here Come The Runts comes out on February 2 via Red Bull Records. Watch the “Handyman” video above, and learn more about the band’s upcoming album and tour dates here.
