Jimmy Butler Challenged Lou Williams To Play 1-On-1 For $100K After Their All-Star Spat

A general rule in life is to not say anything unless you can back it up. In the case of Clippers guard Lou Williams, Jimmy Butler is more than eager to see if he’s prepared to back up his claims.

Many thought Williams was more than deserving of a spot in the All-Star Game last week, though he was ultimately passed over by the coaches and even saw others get named as injury replacements instead of him. Then the game came on Sunday, and Butler had the curious distinction of being the only player to not play in the game.

Butler claimed afterward that it was simply a matter of fatigue, but many weren’t buying it and considered it disrespectful to players like Williams and others who were borderline snubs and would’ve leaped at the opportunity to participate in the NBA’s annual midseason event.

Williams voiced his displeasure when he fired the above tweet at Butler during the game. In fairness to Williams, one could understand why he would be upset considering that Butler gobbled up a prestigious roster spot. For Butler, he remained radio silent until Friday’s game against the Rockets.

That’s when he told ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth that he’d play Williams one on one any time in any gym for $100,000. Butler also informed Hubbarth that he’s the one who has to guard James Harden for 40 minutes on nights like tonight.

At the end of the day, both make fair and valid points. If Butler wanted the rest, he probably could’ve given his spot up so that someone like Williams had an opportunity. On the other hand, it’s Butler’s decision to do whatever he pleases. That said, the fan in me wants to see this happen immediately, and if it’s on Twitch or Pay Per View, I’ll gladly pay to see it.
