Despite reports that The Last Photograph would be his follow-up to Justice League, it seems that Zack Snyder will officially return with an adaptation of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead. Snyder initially teased his adaptation of Rand’s breakthrough novel back in 2016, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he’d been working with the script:
I have been working on The Fountainhead. I’ve always felt like The Fountainhead was such a thesis on the creative process and what it is to create something. Warner Bros. owns [Ayn Rand’s] script and I’ve just been working on that a little bit.
Now that Justice League is in the past and it would seem that the DC Universe has said farewell to Snyder — at least for now — he’s free to go back. According to Deadline and a few other sources, Snyder has told fans on the Vero social media account that The Fountainhead will be his next project.

The novel, telling the story of architect Howard Roark and his battle against the establishment group to save from compromising his artistic values, was previously made in a film by Warner Bros. in 1949 featuring Gary Cooper in the starring role and Rand writing the screenplay. The Snyder update would be the first major studio adaptation of Rand’s work since 20th Century Fox helped distribute the first part of the Atlas Shrugged trilogy back in 2011. Things went downhill from there for parts two and three, likely due to the poor box office for the first installment, poor reviews, and the loss of the main cast members from film to film.
Deadline didn’t have any word on when Synder would start filming or when the film would be released, so that will be something to look out for shortly. The report does add that we could possibly see it head to HBO given their past courtship of Snyder for the Watchmen TV series.
