It’s a weird night for those who thought the Philadelphia 76ers needed to have Bryan Colangelo replace Sam Hinkie in an attempt to give the Sixers a less chaotic front office. That’s because a new report by Ben Detrick of The Ringer shines light on the allegedly stunning social media habits of Philadelphia’s general manager and president of basketball operations.
Colangelo does not have a public, verified Twitter account. But as Detrick wrote, there are reasons to believe that Colangelo has been pulling a Kevin Durant and uses five burner Twitter accounts — @phila1234567, @AlVic40117560, @Honesta34197118, @Enoughunkownso1, and @s_bonhams — to levy criticisms against Hinkie, current and former Sixers players (including Joel Embiid), and a myriad of other individuals, among other allegations of questionable social media use.
You can scroll through the timelines for more, while Detrick’s story includes screenshots of tweets that allegedly come from Colangelo. But for now, here are some examples of the things that have been tweeted from the one account that is still public, @AlVic40117560.
I agree, i think Colangelo's reorganization of the franchise and his good work area making Hinkie look better than he could've made himself

you are crazy, Colangelo is cleaning up hinkie's mistakes and being killed while keeping mouth shut and protect team.

Noel is looking out for Noel. Knows about Jay's knee and using it for leverage. What a great teammate! He disgusts me

yes I want Noel gone over Jah, Jah has a bad knee but class act, Noel is a selfish punk

too bad that Embiid danced like a fool and the whole disaster happened, next time he will think twice before mocking his team

alternative fact: Joel is not the future of the franchise, so who cares if he is not 100%, let's exploit him

It must be stressed that there is no concrete proof that these accounts all belong to Colangelo. It was confirmed that only one of them, @phila1234567, does belong to the Sixers’ executive, but beyond that, this was the statement the team provided on Colangelo’s behalf.
Like many of my colleagues in sports, I have used social media as a means to keep up with the news. While I have never posted anything whatsoever on social media, I have used the @Phila1234567 Twitter account referenced in this story to monitor our industry and other current events. This storyline is disturbing to me on many levels, as I am not familiar with any of the other accounts that have been brought to my attention, nor do I know who is behind them or what their motives may be in using them.
Still, in the event these accounts and their content all come from Colangelo, this is an almost unfathomable turn of events right on the heels of a magical season in Philadelphia. It’s safe to assume this story isn’t over yet, and if that’s the case, the coming days/weeks/months surrounding the Sixers have the potential to be fascinating.
