Steph Curry Admitted The Warriors Are Openly Discussing A Championship Three-Peat

The Warriors are already one of the greatest teams ever. Some would argue they’re the best there ever was amid a growing dynasty. With a roster of Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green they’ve managed to win two straight championships.

Even before Durant arrived they managed to win one more and came within one game of winning a fourth. And the addition of DeMarcus Cousins, the expectation is that the Warriors could become even deeper and more loaded with talent. Let’s just say, with a team like this, expectations permanently remain high.

So it shouldn’t be surprising to hear from Curry that the Warriors are already discussing what they can accomplish this season. It’s obviously a championship or bust mentality in the Bay Area, but Golden State is thinking bigger than that. They’re already discussing the potential of a three-peat.

“We talk about the three-peat just because it’s in front of us,” Curry said. “I don’t think that’s something that’s repeated every single day. But when we start the season, obviously we lay everything out on the table, what’s at stake in terms of our expectations.”

Curry tries to downplay this a little by saying it’s not a talking point every day, and everything is in terms of their own expectations. But this would be so much more than just another title. The last team to three-peat were the Shaq-Kobe Lakers from 2000-2002. Before then, the Michael Jordan Bulls did it twice from 1991-93 and 1996-99. To find the next time a team has three-peated you have to go all the way back to the 50’s and 60’s when the Minneapolis Lakers and Boston Celtics dominated the league. It’s hard to win a championship in the NBA. It’s really hard to do it three times in a row.

With the Warriors adding an injured Cousins over the summer and keeping their entire core intact, they have a legitimate shot at doing something historically great. If Golden State wins it again, this core will not only prove itself as the greatest collection of talent ever but will cement themselves with some of the greatest teams in NBA history. That’s a pretty cool group to be in, especially if they have more to come after that.
