As a former jury member of something similar, the only thing I can think of in cases like this is, “Just divorce her. It’s way easier.” But, As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis did not heed this advice and now he’s going to spend six years in prison for plotting to kill his wife. From Rolling Stone:
In February, the singer pleaded guilty to soliciting an undercover cop to murder Meggan Lambesis, whom he had married eight years prior and adopted three children with; at the time, he faced up to nine years in prison. Judge Carlos Armour handed down his sentencing, which includes a 48-day credit for custody already served, in a San Diego Superior Courtroom.
Hiring to kill someone is one of those things that has always eluded me. How do you do it? Do you know a guy? Do you go online? Craigslist? A friend that hates that person just as much? This also goes for hiring henchmen when you want to be a supervillain. Do you just throw up an ad in the back of those sleazy magazines near the entrance of a bar? Seriously, I need to know. I want to take over the world and need bodies to throw in front of all the bullets!
Meggan spoke at the sentencing, claiming that Lambesis’ behavior had changed in the months leading up to his arrest on May 7th, 2013. The day before he was apprehended, he had texted her asking for the social security numbers of their three adopted children. In regard to the murder plot, she referenced Lambesis’ favorite line in Total Recall, when Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character shoots his wife and says, “Consider that a divorce.” (Lambesis has a side project called Austrian Death Machine, for which he does a Schwarzenegger impression and titles songs with references to the actor.)
Re-read that. That is something that actually happened in a court of law. Total Recall references and then a side project where the guy has a side-project named after one-liners from Schwarzenegger movies. It’s a shame such a talent had to be dumb enough to try to kill his wife. Here’s an example?
