I was all ready to sh*t all over The World Cup following that John Oliver clip from earlier, but then Nike releases this brilliant animated advert and fully confirms exactly what Oliver meant at the end of his segment. Nike creates something that manages to sell the game and the players better than anything I’ve seen to this point. From the description:
‘The Last Game’ is a story about risky football versus safe football.
The scientist and the clones want to prove that riskless football is more effective.
Ronaldo Fenomeno and the original players disagree, and they are willing to risk everything to prove the scientist wrong.
There is only one way to know who is right: the Last Game.Featuring (animated): Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Neymar Júnior, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Andrés Iniesta, David Luiz, Franck Ribéry, Tim Howard and Ronaldo Fenomeno.
It’s like stepping into some trippy soccer/football dystopia created by Pixar. A place where clones replace players, yet they all stay the same age and talent level while managing to instantly get jobs elsewhere before coming back to trounce said clones. The creative team behind Space Jam should be looking to sue. Plus there’s cool music and a LeBron James appearance thrown in for some reason.
There have been no shortage of great ads for soccer and The World Cup, but this one is probably the tops. It has to be.
