On Friday a press release — sent by a PR person whose last name is “Bieber,” no less — landed in my inbox with the following subject line: “Josh Groban-esque online music video targets Holocaust deniers.” My initial thought upon seeing this was something along the lines of “well that sounds like the most depressing sh*t ever,” and I ignored it.
But after running across the email again earlier today while searching for something else I decided to actually watch the video, which confirmed my initial suspicions: it’s possibly the most depressing music video ever made. It’s so slit-your-wrist-inspiring, in fact, that I’ve decided to share it with you all. You’re welcome.

Holocaust deniers have begun to use new platforms by taking their thoughts and opinions to popular sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube; leaving comments that the Holocaust never happened or other anti-Semitic remarks. While the number of Holocaust survivors is dwindling, the number of Holocaust deniers has grown, including well-known figures like Mel Gibson and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Songwriter Cecelia Margules, heard and read these hurtful comments online and decided to write an emotional-driven song about overcoming hardship during the Holocaust entitled, “Rainbow in the Night”. To strengthen and broaden the reach of the song, Cecelia teamed with film director Daniel Finkelman, to create a music video to bring Rainbow in the Night to life. The objective with the music video is to have Holocaust deniers realize what actually went on in the concentration camps.
So just so we’re clear — this is a music video geared to show Holocaust deniers “what actually went on in the concentration camps.” Surely if powerful films like Schindler’s List, The Pianist and others — not to mention countless pieces of eyewitness testimony, journalistic works and fact-finding by historians that have all contributed to documenting this horrific event for posterity — can’t convince a bunch of ignorant, Jew-hating f*cks that the Holocaust happened, then surely a video montage set to a sad song would!
