We’re still a ways off from Chelsea Handler’s forthcoming Netflix talk show, which is said to be premiering in early 2016 — but TV Guide has released their annual salary report and we now know how much bank she’s going to be making for it. Handler is reportedly going to be clearing ten million dollars with the deal, which also includes a stand-up special and four “docu-comedy” specials to air in 2015.
Last year, TV Guide reported Handler’s salary for E!’s “Chelsea Lately,” at $8 million. In 2012, the New York Post named Handler one of the most overpaid TV stars estimating her paycheck at $12 million per year.
The $10 million tag would be in line with the salaries of network late-night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon ($11 million) and Jimmy Kimmel ($10 million).
That’s crazy money considering this is an experimental new format and it still remains to be seen if Handler will be that much of a draw outside the E! network. But when Netlfix started making original programming in the first place a lot of people thought it was crazy, so I assume they know what they’re doing.
Well, except for that whole Qwikster fiasco. I’m sure this will be nothing like that.
