Anthrax Is The Latest Band To Join The Upcoming All-Metal ‘Game Of Thrones’ Mixtape

Two weeks ago the band Killswitch Engage revealed that they were recording a track for the second edition of the Game of Thrones mixtape Catch the Thrones. Last year’s tape was rap-themed from beginning to end, featuring artists like Big Boi, Common, and Wale, which led us to ask regarding this new one… is it metal-themed? Are we about to get an all-metal, Game of Thrones-inspired mixtape as part of the lead-up to Season 5? Is that what’s happening here?

Uh, yup.

Or at least it sure looks that way after veteran rockers Anthrax posted the image above, complete with the #CatchTheThrone hashtag, on their Facebook page. Anthrax and Game of Thrones have some history, too. Frontman Scott Ian is a huge fan of the show, and he reached out to showrunner D.B. Weiss a while back about recording the drums for their latest album inside the actual Throne Room from the show. The good folks at WinterIsComing dug up the quotes:

“I asked Dan, ‘Hey man, what would be the possibility of us recording the drums for the next album in the throne room?’ Like we bring a mobile studio and set up the drums, mic everything and record in here. He says, ‘Oh my God, that would be the sickest thing ever. We know the guys that can make that possible.’

“All of you out there who watch Game Of Thrones, much like me, probably think it’s a very metal TV show. And just know: the reason for that is that one of the creators is a huge metalhead.” [MetalHammer]

I loved the idea of an all-rap Game of Thrones mixtape because rap tends to be more up my alley as a matter of personal taste, but there’s something fitting about a show that prominently features people in suits of armor decapitating each other with swords getting a heavy metal tribute. The two things just go together. Like peanut butter and jelly. Like Bert and Ernie. Like, uh, weddings and murder.
