Report: Nuggets Trade Arron Afflalo & Gee To Trail Blazers For Barton, Robinson, Claver And Protected First-Round Pick

The rumors were real and now Arron Afflalo is headed to the Trail Blazers. Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting the Nuggets will be dealing Lawson to the Trail Blazers for a coterie of bench players and a lottery-protected 2016 first-round pick.

Aside from shooting guard Afflalo, the Blazers will also receive forward Alonzo Gee in exchange for Nuggets Thomas Robinson, Victor Claver, Will Barton and a 2016 lottery-protected first-round pick that rolls over to 2017 before becoming two second-round picks after that.

The move strengthens Portland’s ability from beyond the arc, while Denver acquires a number of young players to develop while preparing for a real rebuild they’ve kept at bay since George Karl was terminated as coach and Brian Shaw took over.

There’s more from Woj at Yahoo Sports:

The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired Denver Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo in a five-player trade, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Along with a future first and second-round draft picks, the Blazers will send forwards Thomas Robinson and Victor Claver and guard Will Barton to the Nuggets, sources said. Portland acquires forward Alonzo Gee in the trade, too.

The 29-year-old Afflalo is averaging 14.5 points on 42.8 percent shooting — including 33.7 percent from deep, which is down substantially from his accuracy last season in Orlando (42.7 percent) — for the Nuggets this season.

Afflalo has a player option for $7.5 million next season, but if he fills the long-range shooting role the Blazers have planned for him, they could re-sign him in the offseason if/when he opts out.
