When Jimmy Fallon organized that epic Saved by the Bell reunion earlier this month, it probably came to the surprise of no one that Dustin Diamond didn’t make an appearance. You know, mostly because certain people don’t like him and he allegedly stabbed a guy recently. Well, Diamond gave an interview to Milwaukee’s local Fox 6 affiliate this week and confirmed what everybody already assumed: He was definitely not invited to the party.
Diamond put forth his usual “I don’t understand why bad things happen to me because I’m really a pretty swell dude” shtick, telling the news station:
“I wanted to do a book on my life — all the stuff I’ve gone through, like my brother, a lot of things people didn’t know about, and nobody was interested in it. No one wanted to hear it. Everybody just wanted gossip,” Dustin said.
The publisher went out of business, and after an initial payment, Dustin says he hasn’t seen a dime. The damage, however, was done. When Jimmy Fallon did a Saved by the Bell skit this month, Dustin wasn’t invited. He found out a couple days before, when a friend of his girlfriend’s texted her.
“It would have been fun, but I don’t see it as a personal insult,” Dustin said.
Whew, no hard feelings, guys! Anyway, Diamond said that he’s more focused on himself and learning from his mistakes:
“Here’s the way I look at it. I walk a very honest and humble path, and I know what kind of person I am. I’m very comfortable where I fit in life. I want to have a family. I want to have kids and I want to raise them right. I’m playing comedy clubs. I’m not rich, but I make a living. I’ve tripped and fallen many times in my life. If you don’t, how do you learn?” Dustin said.
Uh huh. If there’s any human person alive or dead more synonymous with the words “honest and humble” than the guy who made a sex tape and then denied being in his own sex tape, I would like to meet that person. It’s like Gandhi and Mother Teresa had a child and put it up for adoption and somehow it ended up being the star of a TV show in the ’90s.
