There was a moment when CBS seemed pretty much done with the CSI franchise. Having canceled spin-offs CSI: Miami and CSI: New York, the only show that remained on the network was the Las Vegas original. But in a twist, things changed when the network realized there was some new area to explore in CSI: Cyber, and thus, the franchise appears to be a big priority for the network once again. How much of a priority, though? Record setting, apparently.
CBS has declared Wednesday, March 4, “World CSI Day,” marking a global effort for CSI to break the Guinness World Records Achievement for “Largest Ever TV Drama Simulcast…” The event will feature a worldwide simulcast of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode “Kitty,” originally aired in April 2014. The episode serves as the planted spinoff for CSI: Cyber and is set to air in more than 150 countries at 7 p.m. ET. It will also be streamed in the U.S. on CBS.com from 4 p.m. PT to midnight. The current record belongs to Doctor Who, which aired in 98 countries back in 2013. And now, just think, people the world over will get a chance to sing to The Who’s “Who Are You” in unison. Oh what a glorious day that will be.
