Spain’s version of the Palace Brawl took place over the weekend and it was one hell of a donnybrook. When it was all said and done, more than half the players involved were ejected. The fight took place with ten seconds remaining and Laboral Kutxa trailing Bibao Basket by 16 points. One player took exception to a breakaway dunk attempt after the whistle had blown—that’s when all hell broke loose. Some pushing and shoving ultimately led to a series of haymakers being thrown by both teams as security tried to intervene. After things settled down, one player ran over to the sidelines to apologize to a young fan who got caught in the scuffle.
All in all a very ugly incident and one that could have been much worse if not for some brave security folk.
