Trail Blazers Honor Wesley Matthews By Donning ‘With Wes’ Shirts During Warmups

Wesley Matthews won’t play for the remainder of 2014-2015 after suffering a torn achilles tendon last week. Nevertheless, it’s certainly safe to say his presence will be felt by the Portland Trail Blazers as they embark on the season’s final stage and make a run through the playoffs.

Prior to tonight’s nationally televised matchup with the Houston Rockets, Damian Lillard and company donned t-shirts honoring their fallen teammate.

Even coach Terry Stotts got in on the act while meeting with reporters during pre-game media availability.

Matthews originally suffered the tear on Thursday in his team’s win over the Dallas Mavericks. Despite the injury’s minimum eight-month recovery timeline, the prospective free agent known as “Iron Man” joked that he’d definitely be back on the floor in five months’ time.

Whether he makes good on that optimistic return target or not, here’s hoping Matthews comes back the solid player he’s always been – and that it’s as a Blazer, too.
